These earrings are made with natural real and ethically sourced garnet beads and 14k Gold-Filled, Sterling Silver, Brass, or German Silver wire. Garnets can be black, red, or green and are typically deep in color. They’re found in jewelry throughout history including ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian eras. Greeks believed garnets were magical granting wearers the ability to see in the dark and called them “nuktalopos” or “lamp stone”.

CARE AND CONSIDERATIONS

Metal Information:
14k Gold-Filled jewelry is significantly more tarnish resistant and precious than gold-plated. Gold-filled has an actual layer of karat gold vs a thin film on gold-plated. All of The Black Walnut Studio's gold-filled jewelry pieces are proudly 12-karat or 14-karat and meet the federal quality standards set by the FTC.

Sterling Silver is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper. The addition of copper to silver gives it a strength and durability making it perfect for everyday wear.

Untreated brass (copper alloy #230) will patina quickly for a more rugged look. If you want the brass to stay as shiny as possible, avoid getting your earrings wet and polish often.

German Silver, also known as nickel silver, is a copper alloy that contains a 60% copper metal base, 20% nickel, and 20% zinc. It’s incredibly durable and one of my personal favorite metals to work with because it doesn’t tarnish easily and as a slightly heavier weight than sterling silver.

Stone Information:
Garnets are tough stones but because of lower hardness (5-7.5) they may scratch easily. I recommend storing your gemstone jewelry separately from your other pieces.

Jewelry Care:
Polish your jewelry with a soft cloth and avoid using harsh chemicals to clean. Be sure to store in a dry place. Each piece is designed by The Black Walnut Studio in Eden, North Carolina. Designs are handmade and may vary slightly with each order.
